Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED

Levels offered: A, C, and BLS

This Basic First Aid course offers an overview of first aid and CPR skills for the workplace or home. Includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. It also Meets Ontario's Health & Safety regulations for Basic First Aid.

Course content

In addition to the latest first aid and CPR guidelines certified by the Canadian Red Cross, this course meets federal and provincial regulations for Emergency First Aid and CPR/AED. 

You'll complete this course knowing how to:

  • Perform CPR on adults (level A) and adults/children (level C)

  • Help someone who's choking, whether they're conscious or unconscious 

  • Confidently handle respiratory emergencies including asthma attacks, hyperventilation, aspiration and allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)

  • Address heart attacks, angina, strokes, and other circulatory emergencies

  • Deal with deadly bleeding

  • Treat fractures and broken bones

  • Attend to head and neck injuries.

  • Use a Automated External Defibrillator (AED) device

Once you complete the course and successfully pass the certification exam, you'll receive workplace-approved emergency first aid certification based on your chosen level (A, C, or BLS).

Valid for 3 years, this certification is accepted across Canada.

Delivery options & course duration

Classroom-based (1 day)

This course provides an interactive classroom experience; you'll move from theory to hands-on practice under the supervision of a dynamic, engaging first aid instructor. 

Duration:

Emergency First Aid Level A: 6.5 hours in class

Emergency First Aid Level C: 7.5 hours in-class

Emergency First Aid BLS: 9.5 hours in class

Blended (online and in-person)

Combining independent online learning and in-class skills practice, the blended option provides you with additional flexibility for busy schedules. With this approach, you'll complete a portion of the course online before you complete a skills class in person.

Duration:

Emergency First Aid Level A: 4 hours online learning, followed by 4 hours in class

Emergency First Aid Level C: 4 hours online learning, followed by 5 hours in class

Emergency First Aid BLS: BLS is unavailable in the blended learning model.
